Broker's Comments

I'm sure Westerly Yachts require little introduction from me, arguably the UK's best known production boatbuilder with so many models and variations of models they require their own directory!

The Westerly Oceanranger 38, designed by Ed Dubois and built for a decade, saw 84 boats rolling off the production line between 1989-1999. Their solid construction, practical deck layout and interior comfort make them ideal offshore passage-makers and bluewater cruisers for those who wish to keep their adventuring within a sensible budget.

On deck she feels safe and secure; the centre cockpit retains high coamings and lines lead aft keeping sail handling within reach. Below, the interior layout covers all bases - a large comfortable ensuite aft cabin as well as a pilot berth just aft of the chart table, ample storage for extended cruising and a choice of dining location (saloon or cockpit) depending on the conditions. That said, she does come with a full cockpit enclosure so that extra space is usable regardless of the weather!

She has an in-mast furling main, a furling headsail (new forestay and furler in 2018) and a telescopic pole and tacker to keep the downwind options simple. When not sailing she's powered by her original Volvo, (overhauled in 2019) which is easily accessible for maintenance.

Going below she feels remarkably spacious for a boat of this size and is just as you'd expect a Westerly to look, with a good quality fit out that works equally well alongside or at sea. She's dry, fresh and clean and appears well equipped and in commission having just gone back afloat after a yard period.
